Online player numbers finally hidden

  • April
  • 3

1:05 pm Hellgate London

No longer will the /who command let you know how many players are currently on at any given time. Declining player numbers….says who! Out of site out of mind. Good job FSS, I’d have stuck my head in the sand to hide a long long time ago.  Thanks to another reader for brining it to our attention.

They removed that on Mythos, too. It still worked on the big update, but since the mini-patch a day later /who shows only the people in your instance.

That is because they don’t want people to know that there are 10 times more players on the Mythos beta, wich is free and supposed to be subpar compared to HGL, but is everything but.

This really looks very bad for them.

All of that sudden that loan to become “independent publishers” is starting to look like, “We need to start paying the bills we can’t pay on our salaries.”

How low were the numbers shortly before this happened?

I left the game shortly after the SH release and it was about 2000 people on average back then.

about 1000 during peak times

1000 during peak times, less than 750 at any other time.

Basically, the game’s got less players than a Low Population WOW or Tabula Rasa (!!!!) server.

Europe was hovering around 350-450 last time I checked.

Seriously, you guys are badly misinformed… The population is 2000 ppl +/- 500, depending on what time of the time. Late at night however, it does dip down to like 700.

Agamemnon replied on April 4, 2008

The peak has always been 2000 at the most, and that alone is pushing it, however, we can no longer know how many people are on at any given time any more.

It never went above 1000 when I used to frequent the forums, back after the Stonehenge was released. I doubt it’s going to be more then that now.

Tessera replied on April 4, 2008

Well, that certainly makes all the difference. I guess this game is wildly successful after all. 2000 users playing HGL all at once… that’s awsome.

By the way, how many people are logged into Battlenet at any given hour of the day or night..? Or WoW..?

No need to answer. I think my point has been made. Whether it be 500 or 2000 users, those are still *dismal* figures by anyone’s standards.

Considering they were supporting 8k to 16k players online during launch week, I wonder if they’ve sold all those extra servers? LOL

Low population WoW servers have more people playing the game at any given time than Hellgate does. Hellgate is completely made of fail.

I wonder how long it will be before Hellgate Guru starts hiding their numbers, too..?

The number of *active* members over on that board seems to have dwindled enormously over the past couple of months. By the end of this coming summer, I’ll be amazed if they even bother to moderate the Hellgate Guru board anymore.

This is what happens when people insist on fighting in a burning house.

Agamemnon replied on April 5, 2008

According to their board statistics, there are over 8,000 active members on their forums (within the last 180 days), what ever that means. There always seems to be about 700 “guests” on their forums at any given time as well. Either way, something smells rather fishy about it.

Tessera replied on April 5, 2008

Well, by “active,” what I meant was the number of Hellgate Guru members who actually bother to post anything on a regular basis. It seems to be dwindling down to just another small-but-vocal clique of insignificant fanbois.

Andrea replied on April 5, 2008

I don’t think they’re going to hide their numbers.

As for the active users, it’s mostly Yahoo bots. They rank pretty high up on the search engines so that’s normal.
