Hellgate London Transmogrifying Cube vs The Horadric Cube

After the failed Christmas patch, a new belated gift was given to the subscribers of Hellgate London. Behold Flagship Studios decreed to the player base, a magical box will be bestowed onto the true followers (subscribers). And so the chosen people were excited for this new gift given to them from their world’s creators. But as it often goes in this game’s universe, it was more fail disguised as gold.

Granted the box is bigger on the inside than the outside but that’s really the only advantage this 2×2 object provides. Take The Horadric Cube from Diablo 2, the device which inspired the next generation abomination that is the HGL Transmogrifier, it has all sorts of useful recipes, available to all players and is quickly approaching a decade of use. On the other hand, a new game built by some of the minds that brought us the original D2 Cube design a game device that is only for (rented to) those paying 10USD per month. But the big kicker is the list of the super-sucking recipes that only serve to fill up already limited inventory space in a game that offers no mail system, auction house or even features equal to D2’s bootleg muling of creating instances and putting items on the ground.

Mythos, Flagship Studio’s other MMO currently in closed beta, offers a Horadric-like cube as well, Mythos Zivia’s Puzzle Box. Available to all current and future players as Mythos is planned to be free to play. Already the recipes available in the closed beta roll-out of this in-game mechanic are useful. With the abilities to upgrade gems to better qualities (more powerful effects when socketed), transmute rings and necklaces for a chance at better ones along with ability to transform normal maps into epics, recall or identify scrolls into each other and more.
